Málaga CF goalkeeper Iñaki Goitia has committed to a further four campaigns at La Rosaleda. The 23-year-old has impressed for Málaga B since landing in Andalusia from Burgos CF two seasons ago. He missed just three matches for the Segunda División team last term and is now expected to step up a level to compete with Francesc Arnau for the No1 jersey.
Mesut Bakkal has been named coach of Gençlerbirligi SK following Ziya Dogan's resignation. Formerly Dogan's assistant, Bakkal, 41, has agreed a two-year contract with the Turkish Superleague outfit who currently lie 14th with only two points from their opening four fixtures. He will be assisted by ex-Turkey defender Bülent Korkmaz after the 37-year-old turned down a similar position at Galatasaray SK in favour of a role that involves playing.
Malatyaspor are a place behind and are also preparing for life with a new man at the helm after cancelling the contract of coach Feyyaz Uçar by mutual consent. The side enjoyed a strong finish to 2004/05 but have been unable to replicate that form, conceding ten goals in their last two games against Manisaspor and Galatasaray. Former coach Ziya Dogan is a possible replacement.
Coach Nikola Ilievski has returned to Slovenian Cup holders NK Publikum after the Celje outfit sacked Marko Pocrnjic. Publikum have endured a torrid start to the new campaign, with hasty elimination from the UEFA Cup followed by a disappointing opening to the domestic season, culminating in Sunday's 5-0 defeat by league leaders NK Domžale. Ilievski, 50, resumes control of the team he last led in 2000.
