Super Cup opener
In rather more clement weather, the first official fixture of the season took place at the Aixovall stadium on Sunday as FC Santa Coloma recorded a 1-0 victory against UE Sant Julià in the Andorran Super Cup. Both sides took time getting into their stride in a tame first half. Nine minutes after the restart, Pinto shook the game into life, hammering past the helpless Sant Julià goalkeeper Iñaki following a defensive mix-up.
Outstanding José Antonio
The champions sprang to life following the setback, with striker Luís looking particularly menacing as he twice came close to equalising, only to be denied by outstanding Santa Coloma goalkeeper José Antonio, on loan from FC Andorra for the season. Two red cards enlivened the climax but there were no more goals, as Santa Coloma lifted the first trophy of 2005/06.
Thrilling finish
The Futsal Super Cup offered rather more goalmouth action, with 16 goals and a thrilling finish. Gran Valira – a new club formed by the merger of FS Cap del Carrer and FC Encamp – enjoyed a winning start, defeating GBG Pic Negre with two goals in the last 20 seconds.
Ranger's test
Barely a week remains until the start of the First Division, which gets under way on 25 September. One early-season tie that catches the eye is Sant Julià's match against the team that ran them closest last term, Ranger's FC.
