Norway shock after 'horrific' injury

Fredrikstad FK midfielder Dagfinn Enerly risks being paralysed after suffering a broken neck on the last day of the 2005 season in Norway.

Freak accident
The injury occurred during a freak accident in the third minute of Fredrikstad's match away to IK Start. Enerly's team-mate Øyvind Hoås fell on him while defending a corner. Enerly will undergo surgery on the injury, and Fredrikstad physio Erik Strøm said: "We do still hope that he can return to full fitness, but an injury like this is a horrific way to end the season."

International experience
The 32-year-old Enerly was coming to the end of his first full season at Fredrikstad, whom he joined from Rosenborg BK in 2004. He played 13 matches in the European Champions Clubs' Cup during his time in Trondheim, and has two caps for Norway.

Safe from relegation
Fredrikstad went on to win Saturday's match 3-1, thereby securing their position in the top flight after climbing above Molde FK. The defeat meant Start lost out on the title by a single point to champions Vålerenga IF.
