September surge
After two defeats in their first three matches, the signs were ominous for Korona. However, a 3-2 win against KSP Polonia Warszawa in mid-August kick-started their season, and Ryszard Wieczorek's side have lost only once since. Their revival was typified by Sunday's battling display at Wisła, who led 2-0 by the 15th minute through goals from Pawel Brožek and Marcin Kuzba.
Korona comeback
The visitors – who will move to a new 15,000-capacity stadium in 2006 - fought back to clinch a point thanks to two second-half strikes from Grzegorz Piechna. The 29-year-old has been the sensation of the campaign so far, registering 12 goals in ten games to lead the scoring charts and come close to a Poland call-up. Piechna has top-scored in the fourth, third and, last term, second divisions and is on course to repeat the feat in the top flight.
Wisła woes
Although they hold a two-point lead at the top - not to mention an unbeaten home league record stretching back four years - all is not well at title-holders Wisła. The ten-time champions have struggled somewhat, suffering their first seasonal defeat at Zaglebie Lubin before letting slip that two-goal advantage against Korona. One possible reason is the absence of key midfielders Mauro Cantoro and Radosław Sobolewski through injury.
Legia lift
Lech Poznan lie second having played some attractive and intelligent football. One highlight was their 1-0 home victory against third-placed Legia Warszawa in front of more than 25,000 fans. Legia themselves have experienced an upturn in fortunes - coach Dariusz Wdowczyk took his players on a training camp during the recent FIFA World Cup break and was rewarded with wins against Wisla Plock and Zaglebie.
Initial successes
GKS Belchatow have appointed Orest Lenczyk and the coach has not seen his new charges lose, guiding them to a 2-0 success against bottom side Polonia and 1-1 draw at Lech. Technical director Wojciech Wasikiewicz has taken over at Arka Gdynia following Miroslaw Dragan's dismissal and inspired the club to a first top-flight win in 23 years, Bartosz Lawa's added-time goal earning a 2-1 victory at MKS Odra Wodzislaw Slaski.
