Run of defeats
Couceiro has signed an 18-month contract with the Lisbon club, who sacked Carlos Carvalhal after five consecutive defeats, including elimination from the Portuguese Cup at the hands of second-division Clube Desportivo das Aves. Couceiro takes over with the club lying 13th in the Portuguese Liga and he will face a tough introduction to his new role when the side face league leaders SC Braga on Sunday.
Porto stint
Couceiro took charge of 2003/04 UEFA Champions League winners Porto in February 2005, as the club's fourth coach in less than a year following José Mourinho's departure to Chelsea. His tenure was also short-lived, however, as he left after less than four months in charge.
