RSC Anderlecht missed out on the chance of going top of the Belgian First Division after their top-of-the-table encounter at leaders R. Standard de Liège was called off.
Heavy snowfall
The UEFA Champions League condenders would have moved a point clear of Standard with a win, but heavy snowfall caused all ten top-flight games in Belgium and the Netherlands to be postponed on Saturday. It capped a dismal month for the team from Brussels, who suffered losses to Verbroedering Geel and KVC Westerlo, while defeats against Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC extending their UEFA Champions League losing streak to 12.
'We are not happy'
Assistant coach Glen De Boeck expressed Anderlecht's disappointment at being unable to make amends against Standard, saying: "Everyone was eager to make it an impressive result. So we are certainly not happy about this. We have just come out of training camp, so the players will now get a free weekend."
