Osasuna continue to impress

CA Osasuna are within two points of FC Barcelona after defeating Club Atlético de Madrid 2-1 in the final Primera División match of the year on Thursday.

CA Osasuna moved to within two points of leaders FC Barcelona after coming from behind to defeat Club Atlético de Madrid 2-1 in the final Primera División match of the year on Thursday.

Club record
Second-placed Osasuna's club record ninth home victory in a row moved them on to 38 points from 17 matches. Champions Barcelona chalked up their 13th consecutive win in all competitions when they beat RC Celta de Vigo 2-0 on Tuesday. There was little to separate Osasuna and Atlético in the opening minutes at a freezing El Sadar. The Navarrans suffered an early setback when striker Savo Milošević went off injured after a quarter of an hour but his replacement Bernardo Romeo went on to play a decisive role in the home side's victory.

Quick goals
The game sparked into life after 26 minutes when Gabi's speculative shot caught home goalkeeper Ricardo off guard, and Martin Petrov stepped in to drive in the opener. Raúl García capitalised on good work from Argentinian striker Romeo to draw Osasuna level three minutes later, and five minutes later they were in front as Romeo tucked in his side's second following a swift counterattack. Atlético have now gone eight games without a win.
