Manchester United FC have agreed an undisclosed fee with FC Spartak Moskva for defender Nemanja Vidić.

'Terrific addition'
The Serbo-Montenegrin international is expected to complete the move when the transfer window opens on 1 January. "Nemanja is a quick, aggressive centre-half and at 24 will be a terrific addition to the squad," manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the English club's website. Media reports suggest the fee to be around €10m.

Captain
Vidić was captain of his first club, FK Crvena Zvezda, before moving to Spartak in 2004. He has attracted interested for a number of leading European clubs but elected to move to Old Trafford despite United being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League earlier this month.
