Vidić clear to start United career

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed new Manchester United FC signing Nemanja Vidić after the Serbo-Montenegrin international defender completed his transfer.

Manchester United FC have unveiled new signing Nemanja Vidić after the Serbo-Montenegrin international defender completed his move from FC Spartak Moskva.

First practice
The 24-year-old has been granted a work permit and has completed all the formalities on his reported €10m transfer, which will keep him at the Premiership club until June 2010. He had his first training session with his new team-mates today and is set to make his debut in United's FA Cup third-round tie at non-league Burton Albion FC on Sunday afternoon.

'Natural and athletic'
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Good defenders win you things and this lad is really natural and athletic." Vidić joined Spartak from FK Crvena Zvezda, where he was captain, in 2004 and played a major role in helping his country qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a campaign which saw the Serbia and Montenegro defence concede just one goal in ten matches.
