"Signing Stefan is a great statement of future intent. We are still aiming to play on the European stage in the next few years," said Leverkusen general manager Wolfgang Holzhäuser. Football director Rudi Völler added: "We are very proud that we could sign him when other big clubs wanted him. He is one of Germany's most promising talents and has a big career ahead of him."
Making his mark
Kiessling is a German Under-21 international who has made his mark at Nürnberg this season, scoring six goals in 16 games. He had previously spent two years on the fringes of the Franconia club's first team.
