The 45-year-old is back at the Sparta Stadium, where he has won ten league championships already, in order to fill a vacancy created when the club came under new ownership in June 2004. Capped 52 times by his country, Chovanec coached the Czech Republic between 1997/98 and 2001/02, having earlier occupied the helm at Sparta and subsequently taken charge of FK Marila Príbram, ŠK Slovan Bratislava and, latterly, FC Kuban Krasnodar in Russia. His arrival should boost a Sparta side floundering in ninth place in the Czech First Division, fully 15 points behind leaders FC Slovan Liberec.
