Lille more than a match for Metz

Members

LOSC Lille Métropole made up ground on their rivals with a 3-1 win against FC Metz on a weekend that saw bad weather cause four postponements in France.

LOSC Lille Métropole's dominance at set-pieces proved the key to a 3-1 home win against bottom club FC Metz. The northern France side tightened their grip on fourth place in France's Ligue 1 on a weekend that saw four postponements due to bad weather.

Keita milestone
Kader Keita opened the scoring with his first goal for Lille, unmarked at the far post from a Geoffrey Dernis free-kick. Mathieu Debuchy took the credit for the second, when his cross found the net after taking deflections off Metz defender Stéphane Morisot and goalkeeper Grégory Wimbée. Efstathios Tavlaridis then rounded off the victory on 65 minutes, heading in a Dernis corner, before Christophe Borbiconi headed a late consolation for Metz.

Heavy storm
AS Monaco FC's home game against champions Olympique Lyonnais was postponed after a heavy storm in the principality flooded the pitch. Three other matches fell victim to snow and frozen pitches on Saturday. Attention now turns to the French Cup for the round of 32 in midweek, before a return to Ligue 1 action next weekend sees first against second - Lyon versus FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
