Alavés had only 12 points from 18 Spanish Primera División games when Oliva assumed control on a caretaker basis. Alavés are two points above the relegation zone, in 15th place, following last week's 3-2 defeat of fellow strugglers Málaga CF. The Vitoria-based side will be without midfielder Santiago Carpintero for four weeks after he tore a hamstring against Málaga. The 29-year-old has made 17 appearances this season.
