Oliva harvest not enough for Alavés

Deportivo Alavés have taken the surprise step of parting company with coach Juan Carlos Oliva, who has collected ten points from five matches in charge.

Harvest of results
Alavés had only 12 points from 18 Spanish Primera División games when Oliva assumed control on a caretaker basis. However, his subsequent return of three wins and a draw from five league fixtures has failed to convince club president Dimitri Piterman to keep him on the bench. Oliva was previously assistant coach under Cos.

Climbing the table
Alavés are two points above the relegation zone, in 15th place, following last week's 3-2 defeat of fellow strugglers Málaga CF. The Vitoria-based side will be without midfielder Santiago Carpintero for four weeks after he tore a hamstring against Málaga. The 29-year-old has made 17 appearances this season.
