Tottenham Hotspur FC wasted a chance to pull clear of neighbours Arsenal FC in the race for England's fourth UEFA Champions League place when they were held 2-2 at home by Wigan Athletic FC on Sunday.
Two equalisers
Tottenham have 46 points from 27 matches, five ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal FC who have a game in hand. Chelsea FC lead the way on 66 points followed by Manchester United FC on 54 and Liverpool FC on 51. Wigan's Swedish striker Andreas Johansson twice gave the visitors the lead in the tenth and 67th minutes, only for Mido (23) and Jermain Defoe (68) to earn Spurs a point. Wigan, on 40 points, moved up one place to eighth.
Chelsea through
The Premiership leaders Chelsea were among three top-flight clubs to enjoy success against lower-league opposition in the fifth round of the FA Cup today. Ahead of their UEFA Champions League match against FC Barcelona on Wednesday, the Londoners came from behind to defeat Colchester United FC of the third tier 3-1 with substitute Joe Cole scoring twice.
Late drama
UEFA Cup hopefuls Middlesbrough FC won 2-0 at Preston North End FC, while Birmingham City FC also saw off second division opposition as they won 1-0 at Stoke City FC. In the late game, a last-gasp goal from 17-year-old Micah Richards earned Manchester City FC a 1-1 draw, and a replay, against Aston Villa FC.
