Lecce's Alfonso Camorani was dismissed for a second booking on 51 minutes and Alessandro Del Piero made it 3-1 with an 88th-minute penalty.

Fresh from Wednesday's 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at FC Bayern München, AC Milan were thankful to second-half goals from Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko as they won 2-0 at US Città di Palermo to remain two-points clear of city rivals FC Internazionale Milano after their 3-1 home success against Udinese Calcio.

Ascoli Calcio 1898 are eleventh after Alfredo Cariello settled their match with FC Messina Peloro in the final minute, level on points with a UC Siena side which UC Sampdoria 1-0. Elsewhere, Cagliari Calcio and AC Chievo Verona played out a 2-2 draw while Empoli FC and Treviso FC drew 1-1.
