RC Deportivo La Coruña's Portuguese international defender Jorge Andrade is set to miss the FIFA World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury.

RC Deportivo La Coruña defender Jorge Andrade is set to miss the 2006 FIFA World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury that could keep him out for six months.

Surgery needed
The Portuguese international was carried off on a stretcher in the 58th minute of the 3-2 defeat by FC Barcelona at Camp Nou. He had collided with team-mate José Molina as both tried to stop Barça forward Samuel Eto'o from getting to the ball. The 27-year-old was taken to hospital where tests confirmed a ligament tear in his left knee, with surgery due to take place later on Sunday.
