PSV Eindhoven received a double boost today as Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and Ghanaian defender Eric Addo extended their contracts with the Dutch champions-elect.
Favourite
Gomes has established himself as a firm favourite at the Philips Stadion since his arrival from EC Cruzeiro in 2004. His 60th Eredivisie appearance on Sunday could coincide with the club winning their second consecutive championship, with a point against FC Groningen sufficient for Guus Hiddink's side to assume an unassailable position at the top.
'Ambitions'
The 25-year-old, who has committed to PSV until 2011, said: "I'm delighted the club have such faith in me and appreciate my work. I am proud to be a PSV player." Chairman Rob Westerhof believes the deal shows the Eindhoven team "have not changed our ambitions" even though Hiddink will leave this summer. He added: "Gomes is a real pillar of the team and one of the best keepers in the world. We can only be happy he will be here for another five years."
'Important player'
Addo, 27, joined PSV in summer 1999 from Club Brugge KV but has only become a first-team regular this season. His reward for impressing in 17 league matches is a new 12-month contract and an endorsement from Hiddink. "I'm delighted he's staying as he's an important player who perfectly fits his role," the coach said.
