Gretna FC became the first club from the third tier to reach the Scottish FA Cup in the modern era following their 3-0 victory against Dundee FC at Hampden Park today.
Deuchar opener
The second division champions, who only made their senior debut four years ago, dominated the match and progressed thanks to goals from Kenny Deuchar (45), Ryan McGuffie (58) and Barry Smith (own goal, 82). "It's unbelievable," said manager Rowan Alexander. "That was our cup final today, it doesn't matter what happens now. It's always a manger's dream to lead your team out at Hampden in a cup final and it's now real."
UEFA Cup
Should Heart of Midlothian FC beat Edinburgh rivals Hibernian FC in the other semi-final on Sunday and secure a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot for next season by finishing second in the Scottish Premier League, Gretna would be looking forward to UEFA Cup football later this year irrespective of what happens in the final.
