RSC Anderlecht are in mourning after it was announced that former goalkeeper Henri Meert, who won eight Belgian league titles with the Brussels club, has died at the age of 85.

Club stalwart
'Rie', who died at home today, pulled on his gloves for Anderlecht for the first time during the 1942/43 season and was to remain at the club until he was 39, retiring in 1960. Between 1947 and 1960 he was a stalwart, winning eight national titles with the club.

National honour
His career also saw him play 33 international games for Belgium between 1944 and 1957 and he was honoured in his home country when he was given the silver medal for sporting merit in 1956. His funeral will be held at the Sint-Guido church of Anderlecht in Brussels next Wednesday.
