FC Bayern München have secured a deal to sign 20-year-old German international striker Lukas Podolski from 1. FC Köln for a fee estimated to be around €10m.
Done deal German Football Association press officer Harald Stenger obtained permission from Bayern to announce the move during a national-team press conference in Dusseldorf. A contract has yet to be signed, but Köln president Wolfgang Overath said: "We have come to an agreement. We wish 'Poldi' all the best with Bayern."
'Looking forward' Representatives of the two clubs have agreed that the transfer will be completed after the FIFA World Cup finals with Podolski set to sign a four-year contract. Podolski's deal with relegated Köln was due to expire in summer 2008. Last season he scored 12 goals in 32 Bundesliga games. "I am looking forward to the new challenge in Munich," he said.
