French League Cup holders AS Nancy-Lorraine have announced their first signing ahead of their UEFA Cup debut with the arrival of versatile SC Bastia defender David Sauget on a free transfer.

Perfect match
The 27-year-old's previous contract with the Corsican Ligue 2 club ended at the end of May and he has now agreed a two-year deal with Nancy after interest from several top-flight sides. Once a striker, Sauget said: "I have chosen Nancy as this side suits me very well. They have no stars but are a consistent team."

Ouadah interest
Nancy president Jacques Rousselot added that Sauget "is set to be our only new face in defence". Their recruitment ahead of entering the UEFA Cup in the first round on 14 and 28 September will now concentrate on more attacking players, possibly beginning with midfielder Abdernasser Ouadah from relegated neighbours FC Metz. Rousselot said of that potential transfer: "It's on course."
