UEFA Cup winners Sevilla FC have signed Denmark midfielder Christian Poulsen from FC Schalke 04 on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old had spent four seasons with the Bundesliga club since joining them from FC København in 2002 but had come to the end of his contract. He made 111 league appearances in German football, scoring three goals. Poulsen, capped 39 times by Denmark, played at both the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004™. Sevilla, who knocked out Schalke in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup last season, finished fifth in the Primera División. "It has all happened very fast but I am very pleased with the move," said Poulsen. "I know the club well."
