The 22-year-old custodian was out of contract with the Enschede club and has agreed a 12-month contract with Heerenveen with the option of a further two years. Wintjens joined Twente last summer after four seasons at second division MVV Maastricht but did not make an appearance in the Eredivisie, with Sander Boschker and Remko Pasveer above him in the pecking order. He will now vie for a place in the Heerenveen lineup with Belgian international Brian Vandenbussche and Dutch Under-21 international Boy Waterman, who is recovering from knee surgery.
