England Under-21 international Leighton Baines has signed a new three-year deal at Wigan Athletic FC. The 21-year-old, who has been at the JJB Stadium for five years, made his first-team debut in 2002 and has been a regular in the team this season. "He has risen with the club and has really stood out in the Premiership," said manager Paul Jewell. "He has taken to Premiership football like a duck to water. He can go on to have a long career at the top."

Belarus international Sergei Shtaniuk has joined FC Luch-Energia Vladivistok from FC Metalurg Zaporizhya on a free transfer. The 32-year-old defender has signed an 18-month deal with the side, returning to Russian Premier League less than nine months after leaving FC Shinnik Yaroslavl to join Metalurg.

Parma FC have signed Swedish sriker Zlatan Muslimovic on loan from Udinese Calcio for next season. The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at FC Messina Peloro, scoring four goals in 25 Serie A games for the relegated Sicilian club.

The AEK Athens FC and Greece forward Nikos Lyberopoulos has confirmed his interest in moving to SL Benfica and a transfer to the Estádio da Luz is thought to be imminent as his buy-out clause is just €50,000.

Having recently been sacked by Újpest FC despite only missing out on the Hungarian championship on the final day of the season, Géza Mészöly, 39, has taken charge of relegated Vasas SC on a two-year contract.

Meanwhile, Finnish UEFA Intertoto Cup hopefuls Tampere United have handed full-back Heikki Aho a new contract, tying him to the Veikkausliiga leaders until the end of 2008. The 23-year-old will be a likely starter when Tampere meet Swedish side Kalmar FF in the first leg of their Intertoto Cup second-round tie on Sunday.

Boavista FC have signed the 23-year-old left-back Fernando Dinis for the 2006/07 campaign. Capped by Portugal at Under-19 level, Dinis, who played for CD Olivais e Moscavide last season, has signed a one-season deal with an option for three more years.

RC Deportivo La Coruña have signed the 28-year-old striker Rodolfo Bodipo from relegated CD Alavés. The 28-year-old has agreed a five-year contract in a move reported to be worth €2m. Bodipo scored eight goals in 35 Spanish league matches last season and is Deportivo's second new forward after Riki joined from Getafe CF last week.

Getafe CF have signed Cosmin Contra from Club Atlético de Madrid on a free transfer after a successful loan spell last season. The Romania defender will have a two-year contract as part of a deal that saw Mariano Pernía move in the opposite direction. Contra first moved to Spain in 1999 when he left FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti for CD Alavés. The 31-year-old signed for Atlético in 2002 after a stint in Serie A with AC Milan, but was then loaned to West Bromwich Albion FC and FCU Politehnica Timisoara during the 2004/05 campaign.

English Premiership newcomers Sheffield United FC have signed the 21-year-old French striker Christian Nade from ES Troyes Aube Champagne. The U21 international has agreed a three-year contract to become the club’s fourth new signing this summer after the arrival of defenders David Sommeil, Claude Davis and Chris Lucketti.
