Newly-promoted FC Luzern are to sign ex-Swiss international Mario Cantaluppi from 1. FC Nürnberg. The move reunites the 32-year-old defender with his former national team colleague Ciriaco Sforza, Luzern's recently-appointed coach. Previously with FC Basel 1893 and Grasshopper-Club, Cantaluppi made 58 appearances for Bundesliga side Nürnberg, who have agreed to release the centre-back from a contract due to expire next summer. He is expected to pen a two-year deal with Luzern.
Bundesliga newcomers FC Energie Cottbus have recruited Marco Küntzel from DSC Arminia Bielefeld. The 30-year-old forward has accepted a contract until 2008. Also leaving Arminia is 24-year-old Ghanaian international striker Isaac Boakye, who has secured terms with VfL Wolfsburg. The Bielefeld club have said they will sign 22-year-old Christian Eigler from SpVgg Greuther Fürth to replace Boakye.
Sparta Rotterdam have signed Dutch Under-21 international midfielder Haris Medunjanin on a season's loan from AZ Alkmaar. Medunjanin has made only 13 Eredivisie appearances over the last two campaigns and moves to Sparta to gain first-team experience. The 21-year-old is contracted to Alkmaar until June 2007.
Luxembourg international defender Mario Mutsch has joined TSV Alemannia Aachen's reserve team on a one-year deal. The 21-year-old, who was previously with Belgian third-division side RFCU La Calamine, will hope to impress sufficiently to earn a promotion to Alemannia's Bundesliga squad
Arka Gdynia, who finished second from bottom of the Polish Ekstraklasa, have secured their top-flight status by completing a victory over Jagellonia Białystok in the promotion/relegation play-off. Having won the first leg 2-0 on their travels, Arka edged the return match at home by 2-1, with Olgierd Moskalewicz and Grzegorz Niciński the scorers. Jagellonia had finished third in the second division.
Cypriot club AEL Limassol FC have landed Albanian international Ardit Beqiri on a two-year contract from FK Partizani. The 27-year-old Beqiri impressed AEL coach Panicos Orphanides during Partizani's UEFA Intertoto Cup first-round defeat by Ethnikos Achnas FC in Cyprus on Saturday.
Meanwhile, top-flight newcomers Ayia Napa FC have acquired 35-year-old former Cyprus goalkeeper Nicos Panagiotou following his release by Greek club Panahaiki GC, along with fellow veterans Andreas Katzis and Paris Elia, a midfielder and defender respectively from Achnas and Nea Salamis FC. Also arriving are Kostas Pouros and Kostas Thomas, from second-division sides Onisilos Sotiras FC and Anagennises Dherynias FC.
