Marseille face the unenviable task of lining up against a FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk side primed on three successive years of UEFA Cup action after the Ukrainian side overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit against FC Nitra of Slovakia on Saturday. Slovenian outfit NK Maribor were far more dominant in their tie against FK Zeta, prevailing 4-1 on aggregate against the Serbo-Montenegrin club to tee up a meeting with Villarreal while Norway's Lillestrøm SK will take on Newcastle.
First-round survivors
FC Moskva tackle Hertha BSC Berlin while Cypriot side Ethnikos Achnas FC's reward for being one of three survivors of the first round is a meeting with Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC. Maribor have also come through two ties, and so too have FC Farul Constanta who will travel to France next weekend to face AJ Auxerre. In all, eight clubs enter the summer event at the third-round stage, with eleven two-legged ties determining who gets the eleven UEFA Cup spots on offer.
