Former Dutch international striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has returned to London to sign for Charlton Athletic FC.

Experienced
The 33-year-old, who made his name in England with Leeds United AFC and Chelsea FC, has joined on a free transfer from Middlesbrough FC, having ended two seasons of service by appearing in the 2006 UEFA Cup final. Hasselbaink, who has also played with distinction in Portugal and Spain with Boavista FC and Club Atlético de Madrid respectively, had been linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic FC.

Leadership
Charlton manager Iain Dowie, who has also recruited Leeds youngster Simon Walton and handed 21-year-old midfielder Lloyd Sam a new contract until 2010, said: "Jimmy brings leadership to the club. He is a leader generally around the place, in the dressing room and on the pitch. He's played internationally for Holland and his goal record is outstanding."
