Young talent
Hans-Joachim Watzke, the 1997 European champions’ managing director, announced the deal at Dortmund's training camp in Göppingen. The 54-year-old Dutchman took charge of the German club in July 2004 and has twice led them to seventh-placed finishes in the Bundesliga while helping nurture young talent such as Germany forward David Odonkor.
Assistants rewarded
Van Marwijk previously spent four years in charge of Feyenoord, and most notably led them to the 2001/02 UEFA Cup, when they were 3-2 winners against Dortmund. Watzke also confirmed that Dortmund have extended the contracts of assistant coach Dick Voorn, goalkeeper coach Wolfgang de Beer and fitness coach Egid Kiesouw. Dortmund begin the 2006/07 campaign away to champions FC Bayern München on 11 August.
