News round-up: Bolton Wanderers FC finally signed Abdoulaye Méïté on the day Cagliari Calcio landed Portuguese defender José Semedo.

Veteran forward Paolo Di Canio has left S.S. Lazio to sign a one-year contract with Italian fourth division club Cisco Roma. The 37-year-old, who also played for Juventus, SSC Napoli, AC Milan, Celtic FC, Sheffield Wednesday, Wet Ham United FC and Charlton Athletic FC, had spent the last two seasons with Lazio scoring eleven goals in 50 appearances. Cisco Roma is the capital's third team after AS Roma and Lazio and play in Serie C2 in Stadio Flaminio.

Cagliari Calcio have signed Portuguese Under-21 international José Semedo from Sporting Clube de Portugal for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old centre-back played 16 games on loan at second-division side CD Feirense last season and featured in three matches at the UEFA European U21 Championship on home soil in May.

Meanwhile, Sporting have appointed the 35-year-old former captain Pedro Barbosa as their new sports manager alongside coach Paulo Bento.

China striker Jiayi Shao has signed for German top-flight newcomers FC Energie Cottbus on a three-year deal. The 26-year-old arrives from Beijing Guoan FC for an undisclosed fee, although he had spent the past four campaigns with TSV 1860 München. Meanwhile, new team-mate Sebastian Schuppan, a 19-year-old defender, will be out of action for a month with a knee injury.

Tunisia midfielder Adel Chedli has left 1. FC Nürnberg by mutual consent. The 29-year-old, who played three times at the FIFA World Cup, had a year remaining on his contract but appeared only five times in the Bundesliga last season. Nürnberg have also handed Russian striker Ivan Saenko a contract extension until 2010. The 23-year-old scored eight goals in 25 Bundesliga matches last season, his first after leaving Karlsruher SC.

Getafe CF have been busy again in the transfer market by signing Uruguayan midfielder Juan Albin from Club Nacional de Football in his homeland. The 19-year-old will have a five-year contract. "Albin is one of South American football's brightest prospects. He is a technically gifted and versatile player," said the Spanish club's sports director Santiago Llorente.

FC St. Gallen have recruited Jesús Méndez on a 12-month loan from Club Olimpo in Argentina. The 21-year-old midfielder will become the fourth player from the South American country at the Swiss club.

French playmaker Jocelyn Gourvennec has called time on his playing days after 16 years as a professional. The 34-year-old, who appeared in the 1999 UEFA Cup final for Olympique de Marseille and also represented FC Lorient, Stade Rennais FC, FC Nantes Atlantique, SCO d'Angers, SC Bastia and Clermont Foot Auvergne, is to pursue a coaching career. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Nantes striker Luigi Glombard has moved to Cardiff City FC, the Welsh side who play in the English first division.

ADO Den Haag have returned Stefan Postma to Dutch football on a two-year contract. The 29 years old goalkeeper comes over on a free transfer from English league club Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, having previously played for Aston Villa FC.

FC Torpedo Zhodino in Belarus have appointed Vladimir Zhuravel as their new coach to replace Yuri Maleyeu. The change came about after Maleyeu stood down after the 1-1 draw with strugglers FC Belshina Bobruisk on 5 July. "We have to survive," said the 35-year-old Zhuravel, mindful of the club's financial difficulties.

Another club changing coach are FC Ararat Yerevan in Armenia who have brought the experienced Varuzhan Sukiasyan, the former national-team coach, in as the replacement for Abraham Khashmanyan. Sukiasyan, 50, has a contract for the rest of the season, with an extension option, after becoming the club's third coach in 2006 after Khashmanyan and Suren Barsegyan.

Over in Lithuania and FK Vilnius have made the 32-year-old Caio Zanardi their new coach. The Brazilian has been coaching for ten years after suffering a career-ending injury as a player. Vilnius have strong links with Brazil with seven players in their squad from the country. Sports director Ivan Švabovič had previously been in temporary charge after Kestutis Latoža's departure last May.

Polish club Arka Gdynia have snapped up forward Janusz Dziedzic on a free transfer from Ekstraklasa rivals GKS Bełchatów. “I came here to achieve success,” Dziedzic said upon agreeing a two-year contract.
