AFC Ajax have claimed their first trophy under new coach Henk ten Cate after winning 3-1 against PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup match at their own Amsterdam ArenA.
Mixed fortunes
Goals from Mauro Rosales, Kenneth Perez and Wesley Sneijder ensured that, while Ten Cate began with a bang, the Ronald Koeman era at PSV started with a defeat for the reigning champions. Phillip Cocu was the visitors' scorer.
Sneijder seals it
Rosales struck first for the Dutch Cup holders in the seventh minute, from a Gabriel García cross. However, the destination of the Johan Cruijff Schaal – or Johan Cruyff shield – was back in doubt moments after half-time, when Cocu equalised following a corner. Perez eased home nerves by announcing his arrival as a substitute with a 69th-minute goal, before Sneijder advanced upfield in the 82nd minute to fire a fine shot beyond PSV keeper Oscar Moens.
