Spanish international striker Fernando Torres has agreed a one-year contract extension with Club Atlético de Madrid, keeping him with the Primera División side until 2009.

Torres delighted
"I had two years left on my contract. But after all the uproar this summer, I am still here and the club have offered me another year," Torres said. "I am delighted because I feel valued at the club and this is further proof. Everything has been agreed and when I return from international duty, we will look to make it official."

Transfer target
The 22-year-old, a reported target for Manchester United FC and FC Internazionale Milano following his displays at this summer's FIFA World Cup, has scored 70 goals in 179 games for Atlético, the team he supported as a boy and from whose youth system he emerged to eventually take the captain's armband.
