The 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Germany defender Manuel Friedrich is expected to be out of action for a month after sustaining a knee injury in Wednesday's 13-0 UEFA European Championship win against San Marino. The 26-year-old, who scored Germany's 12th goal, has damaged cartilage in his left knee and requires an operation.

IFK Göteborg have parted company with coach Arne Erlandsen, with assistant Kjell Pettersson taking temporary command of the side ranked fifth in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Sporting director Håkan Mild said: "We've noticed that we don't share the same views on a number of important matters and therefore Arne himself has decided it's best if we part company." The 46-year-old Norwegian arrived at Göteborg in 2005.

Hibernian FC manager Tony Mowbray and assistant Mark Venus have signed extended contracts with the Edinburgh club. The new deals take the form of 12-month rolling contracts to take effect from 1 July 2007. "I genuinely believe Hibernian Football Club is moving into an exciting era," said Mowbray, 42. Chairman Rod Petrie added: "Every Hibernian supporter can see the great progress made over the last two years."

Middlesbrough FC have lost centre-back Chris Riggott for two months after he damaged ankle ligaments in training. The 26-year-old has established himself at the heart of the English Premiership club's defence this season after Gareth Southgate moved up to become manager. His place is likely to be taken by Jonathan Woodgate, who joined Middlesbrough last week on loan from Real Madrid CF.

TSV Alemannia Aachen's Emmanuel Krontiris faces an extended absence after sustaining a foot injury. The 23-year-old forward has been ordered to rest and will miss Saturday's German Cup match at Chemnitzer FC. However, Aachen coach Dieter Hecking can again call on 25-year-old defender Thomas Stehle, who is back from a groin injury.

Iván Rosado has reached an agreement to end his contract with Spanish UEFA Cup contenders CA Osasuna. The 32-year-old forward scored 37 goals in 144 games for the Pamplona club but was loaned to Xerex CD last season. He was previously with RC Recreativo de Huelva and Rayo Vallecano, from where he moved to Osasuna in 1999.
