The 25-year-old midfielder, who has registered three of Atlético's eight league goals this season, sustained the injury 15 minutes into the match in Murcia, which Spain won 2-1. Maxi's absence will be a major blow to the capital club, who are riding high in fifth place in the Primera División ahead of Saturday's visit of RC Recreativo de Huelva. The former CA Newell's Old Boys player has scored 13 times in 33 appearances for Atlético since his move from RCD Espanyol in the summer of 2005.
