FC Schalke 04 lost ground on Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen as they slipped to defeat against VfB Stuttgart, who move into the top five along with DSC Arminia Bielefeld following their win at home to TSV Alemania Aachen.

Schalke upset
Schalke travelled to Stuttgart needing three points to move back level with leaders Bremen, who swept aside 1. FSV Mainz 05 6-1 on Friday. But they fell behind to a Sami Khedira goal on 32 minutes and the same player struck early in the second half. Serdar Tasci secured Stuttgart's victory with 15 minutes left and they are now fourth, a point behind third-placed Schalke.

Arminia score five
Arminia are fifth, a point behind Stuttgart, after cruising to a 5-1 victory against Aachen. Jonas Kamper and Radim Kucera gave Arminia a 2-0 lead by the 19th minute, and although Reiner Plasshenrich pulled one back just after the break, Artur Wichniarek quickly restored the two-goal cushion. Kamper struck his second midway through the second half and Christian Eigler claimed the fifth five minutes from time. Aachen are now tenth but still only seven points behind Bremen.
