In-form Diego
Goals from Mario Gomez and Thomas Hitzlsperger in the last ten minutes had Stuttgart dreaming of leapfrogging Thomas Schaaf's side but Bremen's trip to Nürnberg was a happy one thanks to goals from Torsten Frings (38) and the in-form Diego eleven minutes from time. Ivica Banović scored a last-minute penalty for the hosts but Bremen held on to remain in pole position on 23 points. Armin Veh's Stuttgart are two points behind while FC Bayern München and FC Schalke 04 are in joint-third place on 17 points with a game in hand.
Wolfsburg march on
Elsewhere in Germany, VfL Wolfsburg moved up to sixth with a 2-1 success away to 1. FSV Mainz 05. Mike Hanke's fifth-minute penalty was cancelled out by Imre Szabics two minutes later but Christopher Lamprecht struck the clincher with six minutes remaining to give his team their third straight league victory. Meanwhile, BV Borussia Dortmund were held to a goalless draw at home to TSV Alemannia Aachen.
