Ukrainian side FC Metalurh Donetsk have announced that Dutch coach Co Adriaanse is to take charge after they parted company with Spaniard Ángel Alonso.

Surprise announcement
The club's first vice-president Dmytro Selyuk said that the 59-year-old coach will arrive in Donetsk today along with two assistants to begin working with the side who are currently eighth in the Ukrainian Premier League. No details of his contract with his new club have been revealed.

Previous visit
Adriaanse has worked in the Netherlands with FC Zwolle, ADO Den Haag, Willem II, AFC Ajax and AZ Alkmaar. He led his last club, FC Porto, to the Portuguese league and cup double last season before resigning in August. Adriaanse visited Ukraine when his AZ side played FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup, winning 5-2 on aggregate en route to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
