Gustavo going to Gelsenkirchen

Brazilian central defender Gustavo Schiavolin will join FC Schalke 04 in the winter break after agreeing to sign for the Bundesliga side on a free transfer from Paraná Clube.

'A lot of potential'
The tall 24-year-old has signed a contract until 30 June 2009. "Gustavo is a right-footer with a lot of potential," said Schalke general manager Andreas Müller. "He is very athletic and strong in the air. We are happy that he decided in favour of us. Because of his age, his character and his defensive ability we are convinced he will be a help for us in the future." The centre-back has European experience from a 2003 spell in Russia with FC Dinamo Moskva and has played for Paraná since January.
