José Mari adds to Villarreal woes

Villarreal CF's injury list has grown after striker José María Romero was ruled out for up to five weeks having bruised his right kneecap on Wednesday.

Villarreal CF forward José María Romero has been sidelined for up to five weeks after suffering an injury to his right knee during Wednesday's 2-1 Copa del Rey defeat by Segunda División side Real Valladolid.

Injury problems
The 28-year-old was taken off 76 minutes into the first leg of the last-16 tie and tests revealed a bruise to his right kneecap. With a Primera División trip to Athletic Club Bilbao next on the agenda for eleventh-placed Villarreal, followed by the second leg of their tie with Valladolid in midweek, coach Manuel Pellegrini is now without not only José Mari but also José Manuel Peña and Pascal Cygan with calf injuries while Nihat Kahveci and Robert Pirès are both missing due to knee ligament damage.
