Arsenal FC's stunning 6-3 League Cup quarter-final win at Liverpool FC on Tuesday overshadowed FA Cup successes for Reading FC and Barnet FC.

Arsenal triumph
Brazilian striker Julio Baptista scored four times as Arsenal, fielding a second-string side, ran riot at Anfield after winning 3-1 against the same opponents on Saturday in the FA Cup. Jérémie Aliadière opened the scoring for Wenger's men after 27 minutes, with Baptista scoring twice more before the interval either side of an Alexandre Song effort after Robbie Fowler had levelled the scores.

Injury fears
Jerzy Dudek denied Baptista from the penalty spot early in the second half, but the Brazilian completed his hat-trick with a 60th-minute shot. Goals from Steven Gerrard and Sami Hyypiä gave Liverpool some hope before Baptista grabbed his fourth of the night with six minutes remaining. To compound Liverpool's misery, both Mark González and Luis García were carried off on stretchers and face scans on Wednesday to determine the extent of their injuries.

Reading through
While Arsenal claimed their place in the League Cup semi-finals, Premiership rivals Reading earned an FA Cup fourth round away tie against either Newcastle United FC or Birmingham City FC with a 3-2 win against Burnley FC in one of two rescheduled ties that had been rained off at the weekend. Meanwhile, fourth tier Barnet will play host to either Plymouth Argyle FC or Peterborough United FC at the same stage after they overcame Colchester United FC 2-1.
