The 1990 FIFA World Cup winner Klaus Augenthaler has extended his contract as coach of VfL Wolfsburg, binding him to the Bundesliga club until June 2009.
'Very glad'
"We are very glad to be able to continue to work with Klaus Augenthaler for another two years and continue the work we started together at the beginning of 2006," said Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Fuchs. "This extension is a sign of continuity and creates chances to further help our development."
Forward momentum
"I will do everything in my powers to go forward with Wolfsburg," added the 49-year-old coach, whose side are 12th in the Bundesliga. "We want to take this step by step in the months and years to come and we will have to work hard together. The next step will involve improving our creativity and attacking play."
Previous roles
Augenthaler was named as Wolfsburg coach in December 2005 but his initial contract was due to expire in the summer. The former German international defender and FC Bayern München assistant coach had previously been in sole charge at 1. FC Nürnberg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen before taking over at Wolfsburg.
