Hamburg let Lauth join Stuttgart

Bundesliga strugglers Hamburger SV may look to sign another forward after loaning 25-year-old striker Benjamin Lauth to VfB Stuttgart until the season's end.

'Fingers crossed'
Currently fourth in the table, Stuttgart have been looking for a striker after loaning Jon Dahl Tomasson to Villarreal CF. Capped five times by Germany, Lauth has failed to shine since joining Hamburg from TSV 1860 München in 2004, scoring ten goals in 47 league games. "I am keeping my fingers crossed for him and hoping it will work out well for him at Stuttgart," said Hamburg coach Thomas Doll.

Irons in the fire
No transfer fee has been mentioned, with Lauth's contract with Hamburg not due to expire until summer 2008. Hamburg, who sit second from bottom in the Bundesliga, may yet sign another forward, with sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer saying: "There are several negotiations going on. It is possible that something might happen at short notice. We are still trying to find out what makes sense and what doesn't."
