Hamburger SV have signed experienced goalkeeper Frank Rost from FC Schalke 04 for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of €1m.
Contract until 2009
The 33-year-old former German international lost his place in the Schalke lineup ten games into this season when 20-year-old newcomer Manuel Neuer was selected. After 178 appearances for Schalke since leaving Werder Bremen in 2002, Rost has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at relegation-threatened Hamburg.
'New challenge'
"I am looking forward to the new challenge," said Rost, who will travel to Dubai today to join his new club's training camp. "HSV have a strong team with lots of potential." Hamburg sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer added: "I expect that Frank's vast experience will provide some much-needed stability for our entire team."
