Article body
Roy Makaay scored the winner as FC Bayern München ended a run of four league and cup games without a victory against DSC Arminia Bielefeld on a day in the Bundesliga where 1. FC Nürnberg boosted their European ambitions.
Slump ended
German champions Bayern had seen their hopes of retaining the title drift in recent weeks following defeats by TSV Alemannia Aachen, BV Borussia Dortmund and Nürnberg but Dutchman Makaay made sure that slump ended. He scored the only goal of the game at the Fußball Arena München after eight minutes when he rounded goalkeeper Mathias Hain and sidefooted the ball in. Despite the victory, Ottmar Hitzfeld's side are eleven points adrift of leaders FC Schalke 04 in fourth position.
Saenko double
The only other game played on Sunday saw Nürnberg win their fourth league game from the last five played as two goals in the final three minutes of the match by Russian striker Ivan Saenko gave them a dramatic 2-0 victory against VfL Bochum. The three points moved Hans Meyer's side up to fifth, ahead of Hertha BSC Berlin on goal difference.
