Defender Johnny Heitinga has agreed a three-year contract extension at AFC Ajax which will continue his association with the Dutch club until June 2011.

Fresh terms
The 23-year-old's existing deal was due to expire in the summer of 2008, but those terms will be superseded by the new contract which will take effect on 1 July. "I can still develop at Ajax and grow more," he said. "My goal for the next few years is to win trophies with Ajax. I have a good feeling about the coaching staff and this team. It's not time to move abroad yet."

'A real club man'
Heitinga added: "I have played for Ajax since I was seven years old and I feel I am a real club man." He made his debut in August 2001 and has played 112 Eredivisie games for the Amsterdam side, scoring eleven goals. He has won two league titles, two Dutch Cups and three Super Cups as well as 24 caps for the Netherlands. Ajax were knocked out of this season's UEFA Cup Round of 32 by Werder Bremen.
