Shalke lead
The title rivals were tied on 42 points before kick-off, seven clear of third-placed VfB Stuttgart, with Bremen having the edge on goal difference. Strikes in either half by Denmark striker Løvenkrands provided the only statistic that mattered on Sunday, however, as the away victory gave Schalke a three-point lead over their rivals. Løvenkrands volleyed in from a Lincoln cross in the 20th minute to open the scoring and then tucked the second past Andreas Reinke 17 minutes from time.
Stuttgart close in
Elsewhere, Stuttgart reduced the gap on Bremen to four points as Mario Gomez (60) headed the only goal in a victory at BV Borussia Dortmund. Stuttgart are four points ahead of fourth-placed FC Bayern München, who lost 3-0 at 1. FC Nürnberg on Friday.
