Panathinaikos FC went two points clear of AEK Athens FC and into second place in Greece with a stunning 4-1 victory at their rivals this evening.
Ninis show
The visitors were quickly in front through Ioannis Goumas's header from a Sotirios Ninis corner. The 16-year-old midfielder then scored himself before an excellent volley by Dimitrios Salpingidis put Panathinaikos in cruise control with only 24 minutes gone. Andreas Ivanschitz added a fourth in the second half from another Ninis assist before AEK scored a late consolation through Pantelis Kapetanos.
Comfortable night
The impressive night's work at the Olympic Stadium leaves Panathinaikos eleven points behind Olympiacos CFP, who continued their march to the championship with a 4-1 victory at home against Atromitos FC, despite playing the last half-hour with ten men after Nery Alberto Castillo was sent off. The champions of Greece will enter the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage automatically with the runners-up given a place in the third qualifying round.
