Nantes make Sedan pay penalty

Members

FC Nantes Atlantique reached the French Cup semi-finals after seeing off CS Sedan-Ardennes on penalties, joining Olympique de Marseille in the last four.

Barthez save
Nantes prevailed 6-5 on spot-kicks after Claudiu Keserü had equalised for the visitors soon after Grégory Pujol's breakthrough for Sedan. Fabien Barthez blocked Nicolas Marin's attempt in the shoot-out and the decisive penalty was scored by Frédéric Da Rocha, the sole survivor from a 1-0 victory for Nantes against Sedan in the 1999 final.

Pujol opener
Sedan, bottom of Ligue 1, took the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute when Pujol, who started his career at Nantes, headed in a Morgan Amalfitano cross from the left. The Canaries, one point and a place above Sedan, equalised two minutes later through Keserü when the Romanian striker's low, 20-metre drive was deflected into the net by visiting defender Romain Sartre.

Marseille rampant
Marseille, who have won the competition a record ten times, beat third-division Vannes Olympique 5-0 to book their semi-finals spot. Marseille went ahead in the second minute through Mamadou Niang and two further goals by Toifilou Maoulida, a penalty by Djibril Cissé and another strike by Mickaël Pagis completed the scoring. Holders Paris Saint-Germain FC travel to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and amateurs FC Montceau Bourgogne entertain RC Lens in Wednesday's matches.
