Celtic FC defender Darren O'Dea has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Scottish champions until 2010 with the option of a further year.
Impressive first season
The 20-year-old centre-back made his debut for the Hoops in a Scottish League Cup tie against Saint Mirren FC last September and has since gone on to make 16 appearances in all competitions including ten in the league, in which he has scored twice. O'Dea's performances in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie against Milan won particular praise, an experience he described as "absolutely fantastic".
'Pushing hard'
"It's a reward for the hard work I've done and hopefully I can push on now and get many more games for the club," said O'Dea. "It's nice that the club do value me but I want to kick on and push as hard as I can into the first team. Playing in games such as Milan helps you a lot. It can only help you grow as a player but I still have a lot more growing to do."
