German international defender Christoph Metzelder will leave BV Borussia Dortmund in the summer after failing to agree a new deal with the Bundesliga club.

BV Borussia Dortmund have announced Christoph Metzelder will leave the club in the summer after failing to agree a new deal with the German international.

Offer rescinded
The 26-year-old defender and his agent Jörg Neubauer were given until the end of February to decide on their plans, with Metzelder's current contract due to expire in the summer. The club had offered the player a new deal but have now rescinded this offer, with president Hans-Joachim Watzke saying: "Christoph Metzelder was a first-class representative for Borussia Dortmund on and off the pitch. We wish him all the best for the rest of his career."

Dortmund career
Metzelder came to the Westfalenstadion in the summer of 2000 from lower league SC Preußen Münster and has played 117 Bundesliga matches for the club, scoring twice. He made his debut for Dortmund at the age of 20, winning the title two years later. He was a member of the Germany side that finished third at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals.
