Sevilla claim belated semi-final berth

Sevilla FC reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals after completing a 1-0 aggregate victory against city rivals Real Betis Balompié in their interrupted second-leg tie.

Sevilla FC remain on course for a treble after completing a 1-0 aggregate victory against city rivals Real Betis Balompié in their interrupted Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg.

Kanouté goal counts
The original fixture at Betis on 28 February was suspended when Sevilla coach Juande Ramos was hit on the head by a bottle thrown from the crowd. At the time, Sevilla had just taken a 1-0 aggregate lead through Frédéric Kanouté's goal, and in the concluding 34 minutes tonight behind closed doors at Getafe CF's Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, the 'visitors' held on to that advantage in a game in which only players in the squads for the original fixture could be fielded.

Semi-finals
Sevilla had the best of the chances tonight, Betis goalkeeper Pedro Contreras saving from Alfaro, Antonio Puerta and Daniel Alves. Sevilla join Getafe, FC Barcelona and RC Deportivo La Coruña in Thursday's semi-final draw, as the three-time Copa del Rey winners continue their bid to claim that trophy, retain the UEFA Cup and top the Primera División this season.
